The Dupes depicts a modern Narcissus, contemplating his culpability amidst a dark wreath of reflections. An uncanny trio—part action figure, part digital effigy, part homoerotic pin-up—is anchored by a central figure offering a rope to himself, one end knotted around his neck, in a plea for submission. His reverse image betrays the depth of the ruse; the rope ends just out of frame and he is alone. A rumination on masculinity in crisis, this work empathetically casts contemporary manhood as a mirror maze of disconnection, competition, and power, imagining self-compassion as more vital to recuperation than self-blame.
