Ben Duncan is a Vancouver-based artist and printmaker working primarily in screen printing, comics and sculpture with a focus on hazy narratives of transformation and transcendence. Characters are put through the ringer. They are split, flayed, engorged, sexually tantalized, seared, mocked, encouraged, believed in, supported, financially backed and ultimately canonized for the reader/viewer’s perusal. An effort is made to present the beauty of a protagonist’s internal life, either by showing them flopped open from some grievous bodily injury, or by their honest expression of a given emotional state. Often the former is conveyed with more ease, but it is the latter that lies at the heart of his most ardent desire as a creator. His work has been featured in the Best American Comics Anthology series in 2015 for Blane Throttle and again in 2017 for his self-published smattering, Ball Means 1. He helps run a family and operates two Vancouver studios under the Bone-In Productions umbrella.
