Collection: a bright mark left

A Bright Mark Left is a collaboration between three Vancouver-based visual artists - Shannon Pawliw, Charlene Vickers, and Jean Paul Langlois. All three artists work in a variety of media, but with a focus on large-scale colour-filled painting. A Bright Mark Left refers to the after-image effect experienced when seeing the complimentary colour.

Colour stays with you in your eyes and perception. It burns, flashes—it lingers as a bright silhouette in your sight. Colour tells stories, communicates emotions, and shapes viewers’ perceptions. Each artist’s approach—whether rooted in ancestral connection, pop culture tropes, or quiet protest—speaks to the different ways colour can embody histories, identities, and emotions. The resulting exhibition serves as a chromatic language that transcends verbal explanation, inviting viewers to interpret and connect in their own way.
