Amanda Wood is an interdisciplinary artist working among and in between materials and processes to build a visual language that is informed by printmaking, weaving, and unlearning. Grounded in craft, scientific methods, and archives, she uses her ephemeral and tactile practice to invite dialogue between the traditional and the everyday with a focus on the artefacts of unlearning. Integrating materia povera (commonplace materials) with deep and simple processes, she unlearns through material research. Amanda sees the in-between spaces that emerge as a location that fosters new frameworks for understanding, and the slowing of time.

The intention of this series is to shed light on the urban landscape while leaving space for opacity, the right to withhold complete understanding. Through close looking a photograph is translated into a bitmap pattern and repeatedly zoomed in so that the pattern overtakes the meaning of the image and what was familiar becomes something else. A light powered by battery operated motion sensor upends the narrative of surveillance to add an additional element of surprise and increase the disconnect between the pattern and the original image.
