Odera Igbokwe received their BFA in Illustration from Rhode Island School of Design in 2012, while studying West African Dance Movement and Theatre Arts at Brown University with New Works/World Traditions. Upon graduation, Odera worked as an artist in Brooklyn, NY where they exhibited work at The Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, held their debut solo exhibition at Sehiii Gallery in 2017, and created gifted works for the private collections of Beyoncé Knowles-Carter, Oumou Sangaré, and Solange Knowles. As an illustrator Odera collaborated with clients such as Scholastic, Blizzard, Holt Renfrew, Twitter, Patreon, and CBC.
