Mallory Donen is a multidisciplinary artist residing in Vancouver on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil Waututh First Nations. She has a Bachelor of Fine Arts from University of the Fraser Valley, and a Master of Fine Arts from University of Manitoba. Donen was the recipient of two Canada Council for the Arts grants from 2021-2022. She has exhibited solo and group shows, both nationally and internationally in the USA.

Donen’s art practice explores the intersection of digital technology and traditional craft, using cross-stitch as a bridge between threads and pixels. Drawing on techniques passed down through generations of women in her family, she reclaims slow, intentional making as a form of resistance to the fast-paced digital world.

Donen’s need for control and structure has always been reflected through the repetitive processes and aesthetics that she is drawn to. She often takes inspiration from computer glitches as her creative starting point. Her intention is to embrace uncertainty and imperfection as a means for creative growth and evolution of her practice. This collaborative process between artist and machine challenges conventional ideas of failure, perfection, and process.
