"It’s the middle of summer and I’ve just finished mowing the lawn when I hear the ice cream truck at the end of the block. Running inside to get any spare change I can find means I get to stand outside the truck to make the difficult decision of which popsicle to order. Then I sit with my brother on the porch steps, eating our treats before they melt down our hands and arms, inevitably getting brain freeze. Tomorrow we can ride our bikes to the corner store to get slushies and a bag of 5 cent candies. Childhood and sweet treats go hand-in-hand. Life is dull without bright colours, wild flavours (what is a blue raspberry?) and tasty moments of pure bliss. Confections are present at parties and holidays, enjoyed as a reward for hard work done, shared by friends and bring much needed smiles on a bad day.
