Marion Landry's background in design and her career as a 3D Architecture Visualization Specialist inform the way she observes, organizes, and translates the pictorial plane. In the 3D world, she specialized in lighting, an expertise that continues to influence her painting practice. Influenced by Modernist abstraction, her geometric painting compositions use chromatic vibrations, hard-edged forms, and graphic lines to capture the essence of light as observed in nature and evoke sensory responses. Through subtle painterly gestures, low contrast, and minimal compositions, Landry creates contemplative spaces that invite viewers to pause, reconnect, and find refuge in stillness.
She holds a BFA (2016) and MFA (2023) from Emily Carr University of Art + Design and has exhibited her work in galleries across Canada and internationally since 1999. In 2022 and 2023, she was awarded the University Women's Club of Vancouver Scholarship as well as the ECU x Griffin Residency Awards (July-Aug 2023). She was invited to participate in a two-month residency in Joshua Tree, California, which she completed in the fall of 2024. Originally from Montreal and a Francophone, she currently lives and works on the unceded territories of the Musqueam, Squamish, and Tsleil-Waututh Nations in Vancouver, BC.
